Who We Are

Mission Statement

The Language Conservancy Canada (TLC) is dedicated to helping First Nations communities strengthen their languages while continually striving to respect and understand Native communities. We develop resources and provide training that increases community engagement and makes languages accessible.

We believe that all languages have an inherent right to exist – that they are valued and irreplaceable facets of a people’s culture and of humanity’s linguistic heritage. The Language Conservancy Canada (TLC) is dedicated to supporting Canada’s First Nations leaders and support their efforts to restore the linguistic stability and health to their languages for future generations.

Together, we can achieve this mission by providing urgently needed revitalization services to First Nations speakers, and educators by providing technical and linguistic assistance. We do this by developing dictionaries, textbooks, eLearning and vocabulary building apps. We also assist in the development of teacher- training, community language events and more! The Language Conservancy works directly for and with First Nations communities on these projects while building local capacity for linguistic support and empowering First Nations languages to maintain these programs.
